Oh, how wonderful it would be to drink and eat anything, a milkshake each day, without putting on any weight. But of course it doesn’t work like that. A milkshake a day wouldn’t be healthy at all.
At the same time, if you’re adept at drinking diet shakes each day, the difference may not be as big as you think. Just like a regular milkshake, diet shakes, when taken excessively, or taken to replace a daily meal, are not actually as healthy as advertised.
You can’t beat thousands of years of human evolution that developed in us the need for certain nutrients and certain diets. We just can’t skip out on them and expect to be better off.
To have a healthy diet, human beings must chew. When eating properly, chewing plays an important role in digestion. It acts like a signal for the brain, telling it the process is going as it should.
Just like chewing gum for too long can be bad for your digestion, replacing meals with shakes that require no chewing at all, also causes confusion in your body.
By only drinking, our brain misses the part of digestion that involves chewing and therefore continues to desire more food. So even if we get the nutrients we need from our shake, we can still feel hungry.
That’s why it isn’t hard to predict that a good portion of people who go on shake diets are going to find themselves in the middle of the day, cheating with a chocolate bar, sugar bread or whatever else.
And, let’s be honest, you can’t live off of diet shakes for the rest of your life. A balanced diet is one you should be able to keep up long term, so that you don’t end up losing your progress almost as soon as you get off the diet.
The best thing you can do to lose weight and keep it off, is simply to try and reduce the quantity of bad ingredients from your daily meals, and most importantly – to reduce your number of daily calories.
We all know that fat, sugar and salt (when taken excessively) can cause diabetes, hypertension and obesity. Just take it easy with those 3. Keep them under control.
You can even keep eating some “junk food” or eat a little bit more from time to time. Just be careful with damaging ingredients and maintain an overall balanced diet.
If you go over your recommended daily calorie intake one day, try to go below the recommended count the next day. Fewer calories mean less weight, it’s as simple as that.
If you need help reaching your goals, try the Evolve method. It’s a medically-backed weight loss method that doesn’t require you to go on highly restrictive diets or “move in” to your local gym.
