Staying Slim & Healthy

Staying Slim & Healthy

According to national and world health agencies, about 30% of the world’s population is overweight. In the UK, the USA and Brazil, obesity has become a public health problem. That is in part due to the increased consumption of sugar, fat, and industrialized food. So, losing weight has become a challenge for most of us.

There are endless diets out there to “help,” but the fact is that few people succeed with any of them. There is no such thing as “easy” weight loss, or an “easy” diet. Losing weight requires a change in habit, and changing a habit is not always simple. Before adopting any diet, the first thing you need to know is how many pounds you need to lose. The best and simplest way to do that is by finding out your Body Mass Index, or your BMI. Your BMI is calculated using your weight and height. A “normal” BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. So, if your BMI is more than 24.9, you probably are overweight. Let’s say that, if you are a woman, you measure about 63 inches and weigh about 160 pounds. Your healthy weight is really about 140 pounds. So, you may have to lose 20 pounds.

After realizing that, it’s time to take the next step and study the best way to lose weight for you. Combining exercise and healthy eating habits, and making healthy choices are key to success. Forget about famous diets that limit the nutrients you should eat, such as Dukan or Atkins. Try adopting a method that works.

Have some goals, and challenge yourself every day

What goes wrong with those diets, besides being restrictive and usually expensive, is that most people can’t follow them over a long period. Can you imagine yourself eating only meat and vegetables for the rest of your days? Of course not! Losing weight, keeping it off, and being healthy has to be a daily commitment. So if you want to lose weight, start setting some daily goals, such as exercising at least 30 minutes, and allowing yourself to eat a certain amount of calories.

When we set short-term goals, losing weight won’t seem as much of a sacrifice as those fad and limiting diets. You can count on fitness apps to help you establish your challenges and motivate you.
